We're
Back.

We left in 2015 because doing this right is hard. We're back in 2026 because doing it wrong is everywhere.

Ben and Shawn built SecureTunnel from scratch in 2002 because they believed in internet privacy — not because it was a trend, and not to flip it. A real product built by people who gave a damn, at a time when most people didn't even know what a VPN was.

We ran it for 13 years under our own names, on our own infrastructure, with no investors and no holding company behind us. Every decision was ours. Every promise was ours to keep.

In 2015, we didn't get acquired. We weren't breached. Running it the right way — without cutting corners on security, without selling user data, without outsourcing support — burned us out. We walked away with our integrity intact. The industry filled the void with companies that had no such reservations.

We told our subscribers first. Gave them time to move. That wasn't a requirement — it was just the right thing to do.

"We will shut this down before we sell it out. We've done it once. That option is always on the table."

Most of the VPNs you've heard of are now owned by a handful of companies with deep roots in adware and data collection. The privacy tools people trust to protect them are run by the same industry they're trying to hide from. We watched that happen from the sidelines.

We're back with better technology, better automation, and zero intention of selling out. Same founders. Same values. The domain has been in our continuous possession since 2002 — verify it yourself at lookup.icann.org.

2002
Two guys. One idea. Zero VC money. SecureTunnel.com goes live before VPN was a consumer word. Domain registered, never transferred.
2002–2015
13 years of doing it right. Self-funded. No investors. No holding company. Our names on everything, our integrity on the line every day.
2015
We shut it down. Not because it failed. Burnout. We closed clean, told subscribers first, kept the domains. Walked away with our integrity intact.
2015–2026
The industry got worse. Major VPN brands quietly sold to holding companies with roots in adware. "Zero logs" became a marketing line. Affiliate reviews became pay-to-play. We watched it happen.
2026
We came back. WireGuard protocol. AI-assisted ops so two people can run this without burning out again. Same founders. Same values. No intention of selling out.
Why SecureTunnel

Honest about the things
the industry isn't.

Independent ownership

Ben and Shawn. Two people. Fargo, ND. No shell company, no holding group. Verifiable at ICANN in 30 seconds.

Honest logging policy

"Zero logs" from a US VPN is a legal fiction. We tell you exactly what we log, why, and for how long. In plain English.

Pricing that doesn't change

Signup rate equals renewal rate. No introductory prices that quietly triple on month 13. No surprises, ever.

WireGuard protocol

Faster and simpler to audit than anything we ran on OpenVPN. Modern cryptography, fewer attack surfaces.

On Logging

"We log the envelope.
Not the letter."

We don't log the websites you visit, your traffic content, your DNS queries, your search terms, or your downloads. That's not our business.

We do log connection timestamps, bandwidth per session, and source IP at connection — held 30 days for abuse response, then permanently purged. We tell you this because honesty about logging is the product.

We log what's required to run a network responsibly. Nothing more, ever.
Jurisdiction · USA · Real Names

We're US-based and we say so openly. That means certain legal obligations exist — we don't pretend they don't. We're also not hiding offshore in a jurisdiction that protects us from you.

As the business scales, we'll pursue a third-party no-logs audit and publish the results whatever they say. That's a commitment, not a marketing line.
